Wow - my life is insanity! I'm really sorry I have kind of disappeared off the internet lately, I've had time to skim read people's lovely posts, and that's about it. August was going to be crazy for me already because I'm gearing up for a major solo show, and then another fantastic project came along that was just too good to pass up. Both Carl and I were invited to participate in the "City Hostel Seattle" repaint project - basically, this beautiful but in disrepair old hotel is being turned into a hostel, and each room in the place will be entirely refinished and painted by a different artist. But we have complete creative freedom to do whatever we want, and the amount of inspiration happening over there is insane! There's an awesome article on Belltownpeople.com that explains more about the project, but I will give you a guys a glimpse into how my room (Room 300) is progressing along!
My concept for the room was to combine my love of over-the-top rococo pattern, Tibetan style elements and themes, and 19th century fashion and the writings condemming feminie beauty by Cesare Lombroso. I ended up inventing a sort of personal goddess (the Goddess of Ornament and Feminine Decadence... he he) and basing the room around her and the repeated rococo pattern I decided on. Oh, and its very very pink.
You can see some of the other in-progress rooms in my flickr set, and here and here. I'll be adding a bunch more photos of the crazyness all weekend long, so check back an see how its evolving! Now, all this has to be done my Monday (*sigh*) so I kind of see this weekend as one long all-nighter. But the energy levels and creativity there are really off the hook, and I'm amazingly excited to see how it all turns out. For anyone in the Seattle area, the grand opening art gala will be next friday, August

What a fun and exciting art project! I love that the old hotel is being saved and renovated by artists!! Your scrumptious pink room is delightful, love what you're creating here!
